Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:


Reporting to the Program Manager, the Certified Asthma Educator (CAE) nurse is responsible for managing all aspects of program support for assigned patients and physicians in a given geographical area, and ensures that patients are provided easy access to the support program and access to their drug therapy. The CAE nurse will focus on educating and coaching patients in regards to their treatment and therapy compliance and will work directly with the reimbursement specialist to ensure positive treatment outcomes.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide medical support to patients and health care providers, including education on specific diseases and therapies;
  • Telephone support including program enrolment calls, adherence education and support;
  • Administer and adhere to case-management protocols, including clinical monitoring, data collection, on-going patient follow-up, compliance, therapy disruption/discontinuation monitoring, adverse event reporting and liaison with primary healthcare providers;
  • Prepare for and attend extensive, specialized training sessions for specific therapies provided by the pharmaceutical team;
  • Attend patient meetings, conferences as needed to educate patients, providers regarding disease/product information and case management services;
  • Work with patient associations and advocacy groups;
  • With the managers, participate in the training process of new nurse case managers, including but not limited to shadowing & call monitoring;
  • The nurse will also be assigned other duties and tasks as required from time to time.



Job Requirements

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A Bachelor’s of Nursing degree with two (2) or more years of nursing experience
  • Certified Asthma Educator (CAE) degree and/or experience working with Asthma patients is considered a strong asset;
  • The preferred candidate is a nurse with healthcare and/or case management experience in medical or hospital practice or the insurance or bio-pharmaceutical industry;
  • Bilingualism French and English written and verbal ;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills: written and verbal including effective phone etiquette to diverse audiences i.e. internal, healthcare professionals and patients ;
  • Strong patient focus and demonstrates a high interest in patient education and adherence coaching;
  • Proven ability to manage time, set priorities and multi-task in order to meet various competing work deadlines;
  • Comprehend medical information and demonstrate ability to present to a group of HCP;
  • Enjoys working in a large team and demonstrate strong teamwork abilities;
  • Ability to work autonomously;
  • Internet-research and computer savvy; has strong verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills and is a team player;
